first day in DC

Arrived last last night at a friend's family's house in Vienna, VAWoke up and rode my bike through some neighbourhoods that lead me to a bike trail, which was far superior to any paved bike trail i have ever ridden on.
Got off and rode the Metro into DC. That was the only thing I payed for today, because everything else was free!!

I went to many museums and galleries in the Smithsonian/ Mall
My friend Yonnick Hammond who works at the Capitol gave me a tour.

These are from the Capitol:

Capitol ceiling, where George Washington is depicted as a god.

How perplexing that a man who cut down the Cherry Tree that God created, should be depicted as a god.

Each state is allowed to pick two important figures from their state to be displayed at the Capitol building.
This was the most crowed room of the capitol with all of the visitors and tour groups going on.

There are so many monuments and museums to see (that are all elaborate and free) it would take a good few weeks to thoroughly view it all.
Between that and exploring the city by bike, i was so busy that I didnt really have time to eat. So I just ate fruit and nuts on the go that I packed with me.
For dinner I ate at this wonderful and homey Indian place called Naan & Beyond.

My touristy plans for the rest of the week are to see the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials up close. Go inside the botanical gardens, Arlington cemetery check out the American Indian Museum and maybe the Air & Space & Natural History Museums if I have time.
I will most certainly see the rest of the art museums that I have not got to go to.
They have free concerts at 6pm at the Kennedy center & a farmers market from 3-7 on Thursdays.

I will  be posting the non touristy things I do here next post.

I got to see the Throne of the Third Heaven  at the art museum.
14yrs & Aluminum foil.
I recall my art history teacher in college telling me about this.
