Brotherly Love pt2

There were many times while walking the dog, that there was no need to bring a bag, there was enough trash everywhere at any given place to use to pick up the crap.

Henry

sorry , Philadelphia
I must be honest and admit that Philadelphia has been my least favorite place I have ever traveled to. And I could give a short summary about what I did not care for. But instead Im going to try to see the cheese and not the holes.

Best/Good things about Philadelphia:

  • There is pride taken in radical activism. There are tons of record and book stores around South St. that do buy ins and exchange. The WoodenShoe is an awesome Anarchist bookstore that has a bulletin board of all the radical happenings: food not bombs, group meetings, events, etc.
  • The City itself is very easy to navigate. A grid with name and numbered streets all going one day interchangeably. And, like in any normal place(not newyork), people follow the traffic signs and signals for the most part.
  • The Architecture of the buildings, especially city hall, was amazing. And out of any city I have been to thus far the skyline or city scape was the most estetically pleasing. Center city had the most structurally beautiful buildings that were noticably towering above the rest of the city, making it easy to know were you were located, or what direction you were going.
City Hall

a photo could not do it justice

The Roots in my right ear and a 3 piece rock and roll college band who played out of their garage door that opened onto the street in my left.  fourth of july fog& center city.

highlights:

I did go to a Church while I was here. It was a small outreach church that had a thrift store underneath. I met some friendly folks there. During worship, one of the songs was in Javlin, an. And the teaching came from Acts.

I found a bike shop on S. 9th st. my first day here that sold mostly old bikes and parts. It looked sort of like an organized junk room or bike co op. Dusty and rusty with wood floors. I did manage to get an old Cannondale handle bar bag as well as some cloth handel bar tape. If you like vintage or just a good steel luged frame, check out Via Bikes.

And I also had a lovely time on the tuesday-midnight-pretzel-ride!! If you ride a bike, you must do this if you come to Philly. Meet at the art museum on Tuesday at 12am. and ride in a large group (over 50) to a pretzel place on Washington. That is when they are made fresh!
Some people did dress up and sadly the ride had way more people than the Critical Mass I went to in Manhattan the week prior. :( Dead Mass in NYC.
