I absolutely love Burlington.
When I got back from Montpelier I went on another bike ride and toured the Magic Hat brewery, which was free. There was a decent documentary on the history of brewing in America. I jumped in a few lakes, played a few chess games, went to a potluck, went on a few bike rides, and one of them ended in a snowball fight outside of the school. Every day the ice rink gets scraped and the left over snow gets piled outside.
My last night in Burlingtong I climbed the highest tree I have ever climbed. I am sorta scared of hights, and at sometimes more than others. But I am so glad I did it.
I left Burlington Monday morning and rode through the Islands which are in Lake Champlain. Than through Rouses Point where I got my Pass Port stamped.
Before I got to the border, I stopped at a small vegetable stand on North Hero that was in someones side yard. There was not much, just a couple peppers, tomatoes, and basil. The prices were so cheap and there was a mail box next to the stand where you put your money in.
I needed change so I went to the house and the lady who lived there was soo nice, we ended up chatting for a half hour or so. The lady was a jewelry maker who made bracelets for her grand daughter who died of cancer.
I was personally shocked that people would just leave their vegetables out and trust that others would put their money in the box.
So once I got into Canada, the roads were absolutely broken up. Maybe it was because I was riding through country roads and couldent see over the corn on both sides of me. the roads were cracked!!
I arrived in the super small town of Napierville to my couch surfing host Stephanies house. (She is super awesome!!)
It took me apx 8hrs with stops. And I rode about 120km. It shouldent have taken me that long, but I got lost before I reached the Islands. From that point on I didnt use my google map directions I just took more direct routes that I saw on my atlas. Route 2 took me most of the way there, and than I took 121 north through Canada.
I feel pretty proud of myself that I didnt use my directions the whole trip from Burlington to Montreal. If ever I felt I was going the wrong way I just asked someone. But it was fairly simple.
