Took a Bolt bus on Wednesday morning from Union station in DC to Penn station in NY. cost $15
(If you plan to take your bike on the bus, there are only a few I found online that allow it)
Bring your bike on: Apex, Vamoose & Bolt busses free of charge.
I stayed at my friend Nick Jenkins and his roomates apt. during the four days of the festival.
The festival was spread out all over the city in different venues.
Just having arrived a day before, it was a tad challenging finding everything.
I watched some documentaries on the Indie Screen which were good because they were all about the lives of local new yorkers. The best one I saw, that I would suggest to others was Welcome to Pine Point (14min)
Band/Experience
Thursday:
Hospitality
Radical Dads
Drunken Sufis Political and highly energized punk rock
Friday:
Sharon Van Etten one of the bands who i came to see.
Beruit
Toys and Tiny Instruments their music online does not do them proper justice. They were soo positive and brought great energy. and though it was upbeat and gimmicky, each individual played their part well. Talented musicians!!
Banded
Cult of Youth
The Men
Ice Age very attractive Danish boys who put on a great live show!!
Go figure- As I was waiting for Iceage to come on stage, I got in a conversation with a guy in a bolo tie. He turned out to be Chet, one to the members of Girls. (not a huge fan of that band, but it was cool to meet the guy)
Saturday:
went to the best farmers market ever. It overlooked the water:
Guided By Voices
Torturous Inception -
The Oh Sees - annoyed because I couldnt hear the vocals or hardly tell which song was which through the destortion. And for them being a pop band, the mosh pit was the most unforgiving. The crowed was more pushy and rambunctious than Ice Age the night before.
Sunday:
free Skiball and Wacka-mole!!
Big Tree -just great!! didnt expect or plan to see this.
Forma (DJ dance time)
Yacht - i hate yacht
but before I saw them I visited Kane Naylor. my friend from Charleston. He is in some good bands here(brooklyn): Please Dept. & Chimneys
The music festival was good.
& there is so much to do/see in NYC that I cant leave just yet.
There is a bike film festival for the rest of the week, artwalk, critical mass, friends bands playing, etc.
I will explain more in the next post.
